Car Transporter Rates
The cost of securing a car transport will vary based on several factors, including the length of the vehicle, the miles traveled, and the company used. In the event that a larger vehicle is being transported, there may be an increased cost or “oversize vehicle cost," in addition to height and weight restrictions, which will vary from company to company. If an automobile or motorcycle is being transferred out of state and will be driven in the new state, tax and registration fees may apply. For example, currently in the state of California, a 2006 vehicle valued at $15,000 will amount to nearly a tenth of the cost of the vehicle for state tax and registration fees. This information can be researched at the DMV site of the new state in which the vehicle will be driven, and is important to successfully determining the overall cost of car transportation.
Hiring a Car Transporter
To procure the use of a car transport, the transport broker is contacted by the client and then the broker arranges the move, paying the trucking company and driver. The information the transport broker will need includes: client name; vehicle make, model, year, and description; origin city and state; destination city and state; delivery and pick up dates; and any special conditions pertaining to the vehicle. Companies will have different rules and regulations concerning the vehicles they transport, but most will require an inspection of the vehicle with the client and driver before confirming the delivery. The client should always read the transportation contract thoroughly and make note of any prior conditions to the vehicle in the event of a dispute upon final delivery.
As the client deals with the transportation broker and the broker deals with the trucking company, it is important to find a reputable broker. The broker should only be using licensed and insured drivers with good driving records. Transportation brokers generally require a minimum notice of 10 days or more in order to ensure the vehicle will be delivered properly; however, some may be able to operate on shorter notice for a higher fee. No matter the fee, the transportation broker should be researched in order to determine competitive pricing and client satisfaction.
